Acne scar treatment

Get rid of unwanted acne scars and achieve a smoother skin texture.

Acne scars are unsightly depressions in the skin that are the result of untreated acne. These scars may be visible long after the acne that caused them has cleared up. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. For our expert dermatologist to advise you on the most effective acne scar treatment, we need to examine your scars in person. Possible treatment options include chemical peels, microneedling, IPL, and serial microdroplet silicone.

Atrophic scars are the most common type of acne scars. They might be broad and defined (boxcar), narrow end pointing downwards (ice pick), or have sloping edges and appear uneven (rolling scars). All of these are common on the face. Hypertrophic and keloid scars are the result of a buildup of scar tissue and present more as raised lumps. These types of scars are more comment on the jawline, chest, and back. Different acne scar treatment methods are applied to different types of acne.

In order to assess the depth and size of your acne scars, we’ll need to see you in person for a consultation. We use serial microdroplet silicone (SMDS). Silicone is a safe material used as a lubricant in most syringes in all countries.  When microdroplets of silicone are injected into the skin, each droplet stimulates the body to provide extra collagen which is long lasting. Silicone microdroplets do not migrate, they remain precisely in place.  This technique is particularly useful in the correction of acne scars.

Each treatment method is different. Peels and microneedling may cause a tingling sensation, and fillers are injected, so you may feel a scratch from the needle. If you are likely to experience some discomfort, we will advise you about that at the consultation stage. We will do everything we can to minimise any pain.

Many of the treatments offer a boost in collagen levels, long-lasting effects, and the option to book a top-up appointment when the effects begin to wear off.

You may experience some minor bruising, swelling, or skin redness immediately after the treatment. This should subside in the next couple of days, leaving you with clear, acne scar-free skin. Details about any specific side-effects associated with the treatment you are due to have will be provided during the consultation.

Following treatment, the acne scars that have been bothering you should at the very least be much less prominent. With optimal results, you shouldn’t be able to see them at all. Your complexion should be smoother and clearer.
