Skin Infections on the Rise Following Increased Gym and Wellness Trends
Consultant dermatologists are warning of a noticeable increase in common skin infections linked to gyms, swimming pools and shared wellness facilities. Conditions such as fungal infections, folliculitis and bacterial skin infections are becoming more common, particularly among younger adults and fitness enthusiasts.
Experts say tighter activewear, prolonged sweating and delayed showering after exercise can contribute to flare-ups. Dermatologists are encouraging better skin hygiene and earlier treatment to prevent infections spreading or becoming more severe.
Clinics are also reporting an increase in patients confusing infections with eczema or acne, delaying proper diagnosis. Early assessment remains key, particularly where redness, swelling or discomfort persists.
